Backup Files by just dragging them to your D Drive

(aka DVD-RAM as a 4.3 GB "Floppy")

By Rob Crombie (robhp AT iprimus.com.au).

This assumes that you have a burner that can handle RAM disks (LG burners can, and they are probably the best all round burners). The following applies to Windows XP. Just Format a DVD-RAM disk as FAT32. If you are lucky, just navigate to it in Windows Explorer, Right click, and it will offer to format it for you.

ELSE

  • Go to Windows Help and search for 'Disk Management'
  • Then click 'Using Disk Management'
  • Then click 'Computer Management (Local)'
  • In the console tree, click 'Disk Management'
  • Then right click the drive letter and choose 'Format' (I used Quick Format.)

Now you have a 4.3 GB Floppy Which Windows Explorer will cheerfully copy files to.
